Baby Shower Cake

I got so excited when I was asked to make a cake for my friend Heather's baby shower.  Using the invitation for inspiration (and with some creative freedom) I came up with this design.  This was also my first time making baby booties/sneakers out of fondant.
I was happy with how the cake turned out, but even happier when I found out how much the mom-to-be and her guests loved it.

Bridal Shower Cookies

I've been meaning to post a picture of these cookies- sorry its taken me so long!
This cookies were also part of the Corset Cake order.  Using the same color scheme I created 2 dozen decorated sugar cookies.
Last time I decorated sugar cookies I flooded them with royal icing, this time I took a different approach and covered them with fondant first- then did the details in royal icing.  I have to say I like this new technique much better.  Using fondant to cover the cookie gives it a great smooth and even finish, perfect canvas to decorate.  I definitely plan on using this method for any future cookie orders.

Here is the Finished Product:
(Sorry it's a little blurry- I couldn't get a better picture)

Naked Cookies (Step 1)

Cookies Semi-Dressed Up (Step 2)

I sure hope the bride-to-be enjoyed the cookies!

Corset Cake

A very dear old friend contacted me a few weeks ago to bake a cake and cookies for a bridal shower she was hosting.  When she sent me her design ideas I got very excited- it was something new for me and I couldn't wait to start putting the cake together.
She requested a corset-styled cake with the colors orange, purple and white.
After looking up various cake corset designs online I was able to come up with this one- which I must say, I'm very proud of!  This was my first real carved cake design.  I carved it free handed.  I was nervous that the bust wouldn't come out even but overall I think it all came out pretty well.
I sure hope everyone at the shower enjoyed the cake (both the outside and the inside!).

60th Birthday Cake

A childhood friend of mine asked if I could make her a cake for her mothers 60th birthday.  She already had the design style in mind and sent me some great pictures to try and recreate.  After (finally) finding the paisley style cutters I did my best to replicate the design she had sent me.

Congratulations Dr. Teri!!

One of my very dear friends, Teri, just graduated from UCF with her DOCTORS in Clinical Psychology (DOCTORS, did you get that, she's a DOCTOR!!)  To celebrate the extra special occasion her husband asked if I could bake her a cake.  After brain storming for a bit I decided to make her a book-shaped cake with a diploma on top.

I hand painted the pattern on the book and although you can't see it in the pictures I pressed lines into the sides of the cake to make it look like the book had pages.

So once again, congratulations Dr. Teri!! :)  Can't wait till you move back to O-town!

(Thanks for Lisa and Teri for the pix!!)

Leopard Print Diamond Cake

This cake was fully designed by the client (aka the Birthday Girl).  After e-mailing back and forth for a bit she decided on this design, a leopard print diamond shaped cake.

This is a very unique design and I was glad that I was able to make her vision a reality.  Using color gels I was able to create edible "paint" and I hand painted the leopard print design onto the tan fondant.  Overall I am very pleased with the print design.

Superman Birthday Cake

My latest order was for a wife who wanted to surprise her husband with a Superman inspired birthday cake.  Her husband is a huge Superman fan but he's also a business professional by trade.  I decided to incorporate the two and make a "business man by day, superhero by night" cake.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!

This past weekend my parents celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
I wanted to make them something special- something that related to the both of them.
I tried thinking back to my childhood trying to remember any sort of detail that I could incorporate into their cake... then it hit me!  Growing up my parents had this set of ceramic birds that faced each other- my mom always joked that it was her and my father.  I decided to use those birds as inspiration and created little "mom and dad" birds for this cake.  I even gave mom a little bow!
My parents loved the cake and even took funny pictures with the birdies.

Gender Reveal Cake

I cannot tell you how excited I was to make this cake.  When the mommy-to-be asked if I'd help her reveal the gender of their baby I was thrilled and honored! What a special occasion! It was an honor to help surprise the parents-to-be and their families.  The mommy dropped off the sealed envelope from the doctor and inside it said that they were expecting... A BABY BOY!

The mommy was very general in regards to the decoration.  She mentioned she just wanted it to be gender neutral on the outside.  So I went with a clothesline-type design and cut out several different baby clothing items out of fondant (booties, onesies, t-shirts, pants, bibs, buttons).

I'm very happy with the way this cake came out and I only heard great things from the parents-to-be.  Congrats guys!!
